Situated in the luxury Quinta do Lago resort and close to the Ria Formosa Natural Park, San Lorenzo Golf Course lingers long in the memory of all who play it, offering a combination of natural beauty, pristine presentation and hole after hole of challenging golf.
The San Lorenzo Golf Course was named one of the top 15 golf resorts in continental Europe, along with its sister hotel Dona Filipa, by Golf World magazine. Guests of Hotel Dona Filipa have privileged access to the San Lorenzo Golf Course and can benefit from a free 10 minute bus transfer.
While much of the San Lorenzo Golf Course goes through typical Algarvian pinewoods, it also opens to stunning ocean views and distant mountain backdrops. A good part of San Lorenzo is virtually an extension of the surrounding nature of Ria Formosa, with fairways that run alongside saltwater marshes and freshwater lagoons. This protected environment is the habitat of over 70 bird species. The impeccable maintenance of San Lorenzo golf as well as the careful course management only add to the excellent experience.
The two 9-hole groupings form a figure of 8, with the comfortable clubhouse at their centre. A round at San Lorenzo Golf Course begins with an enticing but challenging Par 5, before continuing to the three following holes along rolling, pine tree fringed fairways. It is from hole no. 5 that the most extraordinary part begins, with wonderful views over the Atlantic Ocean. The exquisite beauty of the Ria Formosa is present at the two Par 4s, the 6th and 7th holes, and at hole no. 8 the course turns back inland and faces the largest of its two lakes. This Par 5 is the most difficult hole, requiring three perfect shots to reach the green.
The next Par 5s are holes 10 and 15, where you should avoid the bunkers as much as possible. The remaining Par 4s are also demanding. Then it's back towards the sea and ends with hole 18, whose green is literally surrounded by water. A remarkable end to a round of golf that will certainly not be forgotten in a hurry.
