Oporto Golf Club is located 17km south of the city of Porto, next to the beautiful beaches of Espinho. Oporto Golf Club, after Pau, in France, the second-oldest golf course in Continental Europe and the oldest in Portugal. It was established in 1890, when British residents in Porto created the club.
Oporto Golf Club is an authentic links course and is relatively short. Its narrow fairways and the north wind are the main obstacles. Two memorable and challenging holes are the 11th, a par 5 of 497 metres, and the 4th, which is considered to be the most difficult of the course.
Both outward and return rounds each end with a relatively easy hole, which can add extra excitement, especially during competitions.
The Skeffington Cup has been played at Oporto Golf Club annually since 1891, making it the oldest golf cup to be played without interruption. The competition takes place during the "Espinho Golf Week", where members compete for the three famous cups: the Skeffington, the Kendall and the Dockery.
