The Palheiro Golf Course, only a 10-min drive from the town of Funchal, Madeira, offers beautiful views over Funchal Bay and the Atlantic Ocean. Due to the steepness of the land on Madeira Island, there is very little space available in which to construct golf courses. Palheiro has achieved the impossible and has been carved between thick exotic vegetation and a pine forest. This combination has resulted in one of Portugal's most beautiful courses.
Cabell B. Robinson, the architect of Palheiro Golf Course, made full use of the hilly terrain, with abrupt ridges, deep valleys and ornamental lakes. Players of Palheiro Golf Course will benefit from the numerous tees on each hole and the generous fairway widths.
Similar to St. Andrews and Sotogrande, Palheiro has been designed as a continuous course. Accurate tee shots are required here, and bunkers make it difficult to reach the fast and undulating greens.
The Palheiro Golf clubhouse, perched 500 meters above sea level, boasts a panoramic terrace which offers incredible views.
